FIGURES FOR JUNE...' For the month ending Saturday at midday, the vital statistics were as follow (tho figures for June of last year being given for the sake of comparison):— 1918. 1917. Births '140 192 Deaths 72 81 Marriages 7fi 85 (in office) 2-1 30 The figures for tho half-year (with the usual comparison) are:— Births 1128 1289 Deaths 413 452 Marriages 507 f>22 It will 1)0 seen from the above figures that there is a very serious fnlling-ofl' in the rute of births for 'June—a decline of 52 in practically 28 days Tho figures for the one month may not , bo taken as an indication of a_ serious decline in the birth-rate in Wellington; yet it will ho noted that for the six months ended on ■Saturday the falling off (as compared with tho figures for tho corresponding half of last year) is a certain thing. During the six,months tho falling off ha 3 amounted to 161.-
