REPLY TO CHINESE CONSUL
''cad in your paper this morning ?t 11 el ' rom r ' K- C.unpboll, Lower flutt, and T nnisll congratulate him. I heartily'agree with him in all his. remarks. I have just recently returned from a holiday in Cliina, and lately been to tho South Island. T have looked up your paper of Juno 12, .and read the Rev. iMivPowtell's lecture at tho Y.M.C.A. with much 'interest. I have also read tho letter which, tho Chinese Consul wrote, com plaining to Sir James Allen. Again, also, J. read .Sir James Allen's reply, and in summing up I think t must come to the same conclusion as Mr. Campbell. I have, as jjtated before, just returned from - trip to China, and saw everything thai Mr. Powell daw; in fact, move, because I was living in a province that was infested with thieves and marauders. In fact, I experienced these, incidents with an Anglican minister of our villas*?, a Mr. Jenkins. With regard to the other remarks by the Rev. Mr. Powell, I .nust agree with him, and I would loctaro on the same subject, word for word, whether there were a Chinese Consul or not. In conclusion, I would like to thank Mr. Campbell for his letter—l am,'etc., WONG IvING. Wellington,' 28th June. P.S.-I will make a challenge to the Chinese Consul: that if In? could prove that Mr. Powell's statements were untrue I will give JG3 to any patriotic fund the editor of this paper likes to name.— W.K.
