DAY'S BAY SANITATION

Sir, —In to-day's issue of vow paper tliere is a report, under the heading "Sewage at Day's Bay—A Pear Dispelled." Now let liie state it is not dispelled, nor anything approaching it, and that is why n majority of the ratepayers are opnnsed to the scheme. The people of Wellington ought to be as anxious about it as the residents of Day's Bay, for this reason: If this sewage scheme is carried and is defective the beach at Day's Bay will bewmo polluted with deadly microbes from the tanks (and it is a well-known fact that microbes thrive in sea water). Reference was made in the report to tho tank system at Island Bay. but there is no comparison, as the tanks there emptv into Cook Strait, but at Day's Bay they will be emptied into the harbour.' The Wellington people have subscribed liberally towards the purchase of Williams Park at the-Bay for a pleasure ground and health u-snrt, and if they find in the near future it is a hotbed of disease they will not appreciate it. A few of the residents at pays Pay have introduced tl is drainage sclieme, the success of which is problematical, and will cast a burden on the shoulders of the ralepapers for. all time. It. would be advisable to consider siwli a scheme after the war, but the present time is most inopportune, considering the cost, of materials, wages, etc.. and the possibility of the lailurc of the scheme. I am of opinion that sewage at Day's Bav is not at present needed, anil the people of Wellington should assist iin preventing such a doubtful scheme being passed, which may nun the Bay as a nleasuire resort, for them, and especially for their children, and it is hoped that' those qualified to record, their votes on July 1 will rnako it clear that the scheme is not necessary. In conelusion, let me add that the majority of the residences at the Bav .no built more or less on the hillside, and the cost "•' connecting same with the water main ami the main sewer would be enormous. -I am, etc., gBI p SON .
