MIRAMAR AFFAIRS
The Mirnmtir Borough Council held its fortnightly meeting lust night. There were present: The Mayor (Mr. F. Townseiul) and Councillors S. H. Underwood, W. H. Green, J. Pollock, and H. K. Kobcrlshaw. A special meeting was held first to strike the rates for the current year, which amount to the same as for the previous year. Notwithstanding an increase in the hospital rales due to the large increase in tlii'i year's levy, it was found possible !>y a reduction in the interest rate to keep Ihe total rate unaltered. At tho ordinary meeting n, letter was received from a solicitor on behalf of residents) protesting 'against the Te-erec-lio-i of the Scatouu waiting-shed on the present site. It was urged that the council should give consideration to the possibility of extending tho tramway onstward to (ho military reserve. The couip.il decided lo reply Hint full consideration, hnd been given to the matter, and ii contract had been let for tho reevection of the building on the present site.
