Great public interest has been evinced in a caan beforo Mr. Justico llosking" at tho Supremo Court, in which Henry Ewart Hill, of Gisborne, proceeded, azainst Lazarus Wolfo Balkind, of Christciiuich, nioucy-londcr, for the recovery of £1000 damages for alleged slander. , The evidence of the plaintiff, who was represented by Mr. J). '£. liuruard, ehowcil that Hill was agent in Gisborno for Balkind in connection with the latter's inouev-lendine business. In May last lklkind came to Gisborne and went to .Hill's office, where he made uso of tho words complained of, viz.: "Yon slolo my money, i say so absolutely." .The words were overheard by a clerk in Hill'e employ, who took a note of them. Mr. H. I). Lusk, of Napier, with him Mr. T. A. Colemnn, appeared for tho defendant. Tho jury awarded plaintiff .£IOO damages. A nonsuit motion by Mr. Lusk on the grounds of alleged privilege, which had been rooerved during tho hearing, will come up for argument on the legal point involved .on Tuesday.'
