ASSESSMENT COURT

VALUATION OF PROPERTIES.

The Assessment Court held a sitting yesterday, over which Mr. W. G. RiddelJ'l S.M., presided. ' Associated with him' as assessors were. Messrs. T. Dwan and H. E. Leighton (city), C,Harper (oLwer Hnlt ami Petonel, A. Longmore (Eastbourne}, and I). , Jacksnn (Johnsonville). Messrs. 7. -N. Martin and G. Hnlliday represented tho Valuation Department. In the following cases the ruinations were sustained, the owners stating that they would tnke action under Section 31 of Hie Ach—M'Tnviab and Redstone, R. 0. .TCenner, IT. ,T. .Tillclt, A. J. Abbott, Catherine Giooder, and .T. Q. A. Ciisl.le. llr. H. Buddie appeared on hehalf of Mr. F. G. Bollon, and aslted for a.reduction in the valiialion of throe sections ill the corner of Wiugfield and Bolton Streets. Mb. C. K; SteVnrt", attorney for Mr. Bajlon, stated that the property had been placed in the hands of a land agent at an offer of ,£,15 per foot, or JJJO per foot for the corner section. Mr. James Ames, City Vainer, stated that the land was worth JHO per foot. The Court decided to reduce tho valuation of the corner section to A'-IO per foot, making the capital value of the property ,£1125. The value of the other two sections would .not be changed. Mr. Buddie said the owner would take advantage of Section 31 of the Act. Joseph Orchiston raised an objection to Hie valuation placed on two of his properties, part of Lot 38 and Lot 28, at Rnstlxnirnc, the total area of whioh was about 30 acres. He did not objee.t to tho gross valuation, hut to the unimproved value. • The valuation was sustained. Mr. T. Neave applied that the Court yliouid fix new. valuations for land at Petono of which the Equitable Unilding and Investment Company was in posses-, sion as mortgagee.
