„ , Ashburton, June 21. Burglaries last night, both at tho resilience of Henry Stephouson, auctioneer, and at his office, resulted, in JCB being stolen from the former and ,£39 17s, 2d troni the office safe. Tho burglar evidently waited for Mr. Stophcnson to retire to bed, took tho keys off the mantelpiece, and a purse containing the money. He then visited the office, twu miles distant, and situated in tho centre of Ashburton, opened the safe and cash-box, and secured JC39 17s. 2<l. He leit die keys on the office table. On Tuesday evening the premises of vt. Hunter- were entered. The burglar bored out the lock of a drawer where cash was usually kept, but "drew a blank.
