S.M., presided at yesterday's sitting of the Magistrate's Court. ■ • ■ ■ A plea of guilty, was entered by George Selby, a young married man, to a charge of having stolen two quills and a quantity of sheets, valued at £&, the property of the Huddart-Parker Steamship Company, Mr. 1 , . W. Jackson appeared for accused. Chief Detective Boddain stated that accused was a driver in the employ of tlio Victoria Laundry, and it was while working for that firm that he stole the articles. His house wus searched By De-teotive-Sergeant Cox and Sergeant Cruickshanks, who found the quilts and sheets there. Mr. Jackson said Selby intended to return the articles, but having kept them for a considerable time he did not like to take them back. Accused was admitted to probation for eighteen months. Samuel -Lawler was remanded until June 28 on a charge of having stolen on .Tune 20 2Jlb. of tea and a tin of sardines, of a total value of ss. lid., the property of the Wellington Harbour Board. Bail was allowed in the sum of •£SO, and ono surety of JPSO, or two of ~£25. Mr. H. F. O'Leary appeared for accused. Prohibition orders were issued against George Stiller, Charjes M'Geoghan, and Roderick ITLeod.

William James Hunt was conyicttd on an information of having allowed offensive matter to accumulate in Tui Street, but the question of fixing a penalty was uiljournea lor a week in order to give defendant an opportunity, of abaiing a nuisance/caused through the presence of two dogs. Mr. J. O'Shea, City Solicitor, who prosecutedj- said that in Tui Street the "buildingif were crowded, and it. was a matter of urgent necessity to have the matter dealt with. For that reason he could not agiee to an adjournment of more than a iveek's duration. Thomas Parker was. fiued 10s., with costs 143., for leaving a vehicle standing in a public thoroughfare at night-tinio without having a horse or other animal attached. Mr. J. O'Shea, Cfty Solicitor, stated that the practice of leaving vehicles standing in tho street at night was a dangerous one, as thero was- always a lisk of someone colliding with such vehicles in th 4 darkness. Arthur Moore was mulcted in a fine of 1<13., with 7s. costs, for not having a light showing on a motor-car in such a manner ae to reveal its position. For allowing horses to wander, Reginald Johnson and John Millauta were each fined 55., with coats 79. John Hicks was fined 10s., with costs 'is., for haying drirenQa vehicle without sufficient lights. Thomas O. Fox was fined £1, with costs 135., on an information of having ridden, a motor-cycle at a speed of over 20 miles per hour in Constable Street. ' William Harding Morris, for whom Mr. P, W. Jaclcsoii appeared, was convicted of having driven n motor-car across the intersection of Gliuznco and Willis iStreels at a greater speed than eight miles per hour, and was fined £3, with costs 13s. On two informations of allowing cattle fo graze in streets at Miraroar, William Tdford was fined .£1 3s. Gel., with costs ,-E2 Is. Bd. Mr. E. M. Beeehey represented tli6 Mirnmar Borough Council, which prosecuted.
