HATAITAI BOWLING CLUB
The annual report of the, H.itaitai Club states that fourteen new members joined the club during the season. Tea members resigned or were written oft, leaving 87 members on the list at th>e close of the year. These consist of 75 playing members, 8 non-players, 2 country members, and 2 on active service. Taking into consideration the increased cost of labour, material, and general expenses owing to the war, the accounts disclose a satisfactory financial position. This result is due to the co-operation of members in undertaking to pay an increased subscription and to economy of expenditure on club premises, made possible by the- voluntary assistance and services of the president and members of the club in making necessary improvements. Special thanks are due to rne following members in this smllcr:— Messrs. Jamieson, Johnson, M'Gregor, Williams, and Young. Owing to Iho non-observance of the timo limit set fur the completion of club competition games onlv the senior single matches wero decided, although ordinary players' ganves were suspended on two Saturdays to enable the contests to be pushed forward. There is no reason why these competitions should not be finished some weeks .before the close of the season. At (he Centre Championship tha full rink honours fell to the dub through the prowess of its champion rink-hMessrs. Fielding, Chisholm, A. Claridge. and J. Cheesman (skip). In conjunction with the Newtown Club a full rink tournament was organised on St Patrick's Daw Hataitai secured the first prize, the winning: team comprising Messrs. Kershaw, Chisholm, Barnes, and Fountain (skip). The condition of thegreen during the season has given general satisfaction, and, thanks to tho. continued care and attention given by Mr Avis, the caretaker, has sustained its reputation. The club has again been able to assist in the raising of funds for the comforts of our soldiers, the ladies entering into this work with their usual energy and thoroughness. The thanks of the club are tendered to the ladies whose assistance in providing refreshment anil looking after the entertainment of visitors has been so willingly given. ________
