HUMAN LIFE V. BITTER

Sir,—He "Patriot's" letter in your issue of June lj: I think he misapprehends the farmers and their mouthpiece, Mr. Brash, in the matter -;f the price demanded. Why is it greedy to offer the I.G. their butter for Is. fld. per lb. if it cnu be squeezed out. of them? It is simply trying the gospel of "grab-all," and that is su rampant here now in every business that "Patriot" should not be too exacting as to equity. If tliey can engineer—raatfevlcss by what astuteness—anyone inlo'higher prices who shall blame, them? AH they want is the money, and other considerations can bo relegated to oblivion as far as they are concerned apparently. The consumer must fool the bill, or do without. Ho must not ask or whine for consideration in the prices charged him, as the other man is out to make money; and his idea of "live and let live" is too feeble to put into use, and if used would be against the interests of his pockets, so grab everything get-atable. Our lads gave everything and demanded nought; but; "Patriot" must see the Is. 9d; man is out for legitimate plunder presumably, and troubles not one iota respecting higher morality or loftier thought. Self is to the forefront all the time; and, pray, why uot?-I am,'etc., GADABENE SWINE.
