BOARD HAS A FULL DAY SEVERAL EXEMPTIONS ALLIIWED The First AVellingten Military Service Board continued its sittings yesterdiy. Mr. D. G A. Cooper, S.JI. (chairman of the board) presided, and Messrs. W. Perry and D. M'Laren sat with him. Sine Die Adjournments. The appeal by the employers of George Edward Davis, lronmoulder, Wellington, was "adjourned indefinitely. Mr. M. Myers appeared in support of the appeal. Jn the appeal of the Post and Tidegraph Department in respect of S. W. J. Harris, telegraphist, of Auckland, decision was reserved sine die. Mr. M. Myers appeared to support the appeal of Messrs. Dalgety and Co. for the exemption of William Cellars Bennett, Wellington manager for the firm. It was stated in evidence that of ISO malo employees of the linn at the beginning of the war only 31 now remained, tho others having been replaced by hoys and girls. In the Wellington office alone there were m August, 1014, 37 male employees, and now there were only eight, including Mr. Bennett. Mr. Bennett was doing much more than a fair portion of work, and was essential for the firm's business. Decision was reserved sine die. | The case of George Sirnmomls, a young taxi-driver, who is the sole support of his mother and little sisters, was adjourned sine die. Mr. G. G. G. Watson appeared for tho Cunard Company, appealing for Harold Lowry Penny, a shipping clerk. It was slated that all the company's steamers had been commandeered by the Imperial Government, and the whole of their staff was paid by the Imperial Government, so that in effect Penny was an employee of the Government. The appeal was adjourned sine die.

The appeal of Oscar A. B. Browne, factory manager, Tipper Hutt, was adjourned sine die. Mr. A. de B. Brandon appeared for the appellant. V The Patent Slip Company asked for the exemption of Geoffrey Gerald Potts, engineer, of Wellington. It was represented tli at Potts was a man the company could not afford to lose at present, and that it had been found impossible to replace him. Exemption was granted. Arthur Ncilson, a member of the firm of jfeilson, Murray and Frederick, ironfounders and engineers, Wellington, appealed on the ground of public interest. Mr. G. G. G. Watson appeared for the reservist, who was classed CI. He i aid that three of the staff of tho firm had gone to the front, and the firm had not been abl» to-replace them. Ho and his partners continually worked overtime to cope with the work of the shop, a goad deal ct which was in connection with transports and other shipping. They rlso did a certain amount of work for the Post anil Telegraph Department, and the whole ot the citv tramway work, besides general work. 'His four brothers were all in the Expeditionary I'orce. He said that he let t with the Main Body, returning to New Zealaml on "duty furlough' on March 19. He was given three weeks leave, but after being medically boarded he had 28 dm' sick leave. On behalf of the employer it was urged that Harper was necessary to the carrying on of the farm the owner being quite unable through physical disabilities to care for the- farm.
