The Germans began a new attack on the Reims front, intended to. capture the town, but were stopped by the French successfully counter-attackiug.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. The New Zealand High Commissioner reports:— London, June 18, 3.20 p.m. A Frenc'i official report states: ".Between Vriniy and Onnes a fresh German assault has been thrown back. A desperate attempt to capture Reims failed." LOCAL ATTACKS ON THE FRENCH FRONT London, June 19. A French communique states: "Artillery action has been fairly lively northwest of Montdidier, also betwoea Montdidiec and the Aisue. We carried out local attacks south, of Valsery, improving our positions. A German raid was repulsed in the region of Avoncourt."—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.-Reuter. ON THE AMERICAN FRONT London,. June 19. An American official report states: "There has been continued artillery action in the Chateau Thierry region and also on the.Alarno front. June 20, 8.15 p.m.) London, Jinne 19, 1.20 p.m. Sir Douglas Haig reports: "We successfully raided the enemy's lines southward of Hebiiterne ond recaptured a post on the Vieux Drequin sector, which was lost on Juno 14. The French repulsed a raid on the Locre sector. Hostile artillery is active in tbe Ancre Valley about Mericourt and in the neighbourhood of Morris."—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. UNNATURAL STILLNESS ON THE BRITISH FRONT ' PRECEDES AN IMMENSE EFFORT. (Rec. June 20, 8.15 p.m.) London, June 19. Renter's conespondent at British Headquarters writes on Jumo 19: "Tho unnatural stillness on the whole of the British front continues. No -no doubt that it is deceptive, for the oneniy's renewed effort, cannot much longer bo deiayed. It isnot known where he will strike, but he is fast bringing his last available man from Russia, which shows that ho means big business, and is also a proof that to noes not consider his numbers sufficient for tho immense effort he intends to make."—Router. GERMAN OFFICIAL REPORT London, June 19. THE WAR IN THE AIR London, Juno 19. Sir Douglas naig in his aviation report states: "The enemy's machines have been activo on (he northern portion of tho British front, and there have been many air combats. AVe destroyed twenty-five aeroplanes, and dropped twenty tons of bombs on railway stations, junctions, dumps, and aerodromes in ths daytime and nino tons during tho night/'' , A. French official report states: "During the past five days thirty-two enemy aeroplanes wero brought down by our anti-aircraft guns, and twenty-two tons of bombs were dropped on railway stations, at Soissons, Roye, Nesle, and Chaulnes."—Aus.-N.Z. Cablo Assn.-Reuter. NUMERICAL STRENGTH ABOUT EQUAL WHERE THE ENEMY HAS TH E ADVANTAGE. New York, June 19. The" Now York ''Times" correspondent at Paris quotes Senator Berenger as stating that the Allies are not appreciably inferior in'numerical strength. They have about seven million men, which is, roughly, the same as tho Central Powers.
