ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
4 . William I.eitch, an employee of the City Electric Lighting Department, met with an accident; whilst engaged on lino work yesterday morning which necessitated his removal'to the Hospital. He was engaged in making repairs to one of the overhead wires on Waterloo Quay when he accidentally touched one of ttia wires, receiving ii. slight shock vhich caused l:im to lose his balance and fall <.n to tho load below, injuring his back. A child named Mervyn Leach, aged 5 years, residing at No. 75 Kent Terrace, was admitted to I lie Hospital at 10.20 last, night suffering from butns lo his back. Tho child climbed on to a tablo on which a. candle was burning, with % the result that his shirt caught fire and his back was burned before the flames could be extinguished. FATAL TEAM ACCIDENTS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Juno 20. The woman who died last, night from injuries received through falling from a tram has been identified as Mis. Laura Augusta Blake, widow. William Owers, tramway conductor, was crushed between an electric car and a trailer at Now Brighton last night. His thighs were fractured. He was operated on at the Hospital, but died this morning. '
