LAND FOR SOLDIERS
e SMALL HOLDINGS PURCHASED. A number of purchases of land suitable for occupation by returned soldiers in small holdings were approved by Cabinet yesterday. A few words of explanation of what is being deno were given to a Dominion reporter, last evening b.y the Jlini6ter in Chargo (the Hon. D. li. Guthrie), "provision .has been made," said Mr. Guthrie, "for the returned soldier who wants good land for the purpose of dairying. Several offers havo been made to the Government of such '.and in suitable localities, whero there is every chanoo of the settlers making good. Wo have already purchased several of theso properties, and wo have, retvrncd soldiers waiting to take them up. The pricw paid havo been such that the Land lurchase Board is convinced that the soldiers who may go 011 the land havo the very best prospects of success. Many of the areas wo have purchased are quite small. Some will be offered in, single holdings, and others will 1)6 subdivided into two or tttree farms. A number of tho farms have been purchased from men going to trio front, so that what will happen will be that men returned from tho war will be taking the places of men now going on service."
