At the annual meeting of the Sh John Ambulance Association, Auckland, on Friday evening, Ris Kxcellency tha Gov-enior-General presented Mrs. Louisa Smith, lady superintendent of the Auckland corps, with the badge of the British lied Cross and Order of St. John, in recognition of services rendered to the two organisations, on the nomination of Lady Gosford. Mrs. Smith inaugurated the work of the Queen Mary Sewing Guild in Auckland in August, 1911, and ■ up to December, 1917, the guild had sent for the use of the Joint Committeo in England 13,778 garments, 37,178 bandages, and 19,737 other articles, of _an approximate value of ,£-1397. In addition, for the first equipment of the hospital .ship Maheuo, they contributed 11,013 bandages, Hivabs, etc., and 7270 for the second equipment, l.'or the first equipment of the Mamma tliey contributed 12,113 bandages and swabs, and for the second 2180, while 1532 were sent for the Indian troops in Mesopotamia. Clothing had also been sent to the Hev.' Wilson Carlisle, of the Church Army, for soldiers' dependants, to the value of J5577 3s.
Tlie usual meeting of the Soldiers' Mothers, Wives, and Dependants' League will be hsld n! the Esperanto Hall tonight at 8 p.m., and a. full attendance of members is requested. A meeting of the committee will be held at 7.30 p.m.
