When sent out to contest the lillesmere Jlandioap on June i,. Arch Marella, who was weighted at Bst. lib., stood at a rcj niunerative price in tho betting. When tho business end of tho trip came to be entered upon Arch Mnrella shot up villi a fine rim, anil scored by three quarters of a length' from March On, to whom bo was conceding 111b.. and that tho nacc was right on the time recorded I7min. ssec.) amply testifies. The merit of /rch Marclla's victory in the Ellesincre Handicap was not apparently fully rcco;:niscd, for though he figured in the Winter Stakes with 7st. ,91b., four of the oilier contestants in the milo and three fin kings race ruled better favourites. Arch Mnrella again answered the question most attractively when he cacic !o dispute matters in the Winter Stakes, and he won ■by three quarters of a length, in 2mln. SUsec. Arch Jtarclla figures aic-mest the ontrants for the irptronolitnn Handicap, Melbourne Cup. and Williamstown Cup, so that ho will have on opportunity to earn a, lot of stake money during the coming spring should he nrove himself up to the standard. Braeburn, which ia top weight with !2st. 61b. in the Napier Steeplechase is reported to have' gone on the right way since to won the Wanganui Steeplechase and liis connections are confident that ho will go close to winning the bit' race at Napier, which he lias already won twice in succession. In 1916 lie won with l'st.'3lb., and last year under 12st. His pilot (J. Deerey). has alßo a good record in connection with tho event, for, in addition to riding Braeburn in both his successos,, ho also steered Glenmoro the previous' year, so he has already done the ';hat trick."
