► , MONTHLY MEETING. The committee of the Wellington Industrial Association met last night. ProEent: 'Messrs. F. J. Evans (president), 'L. R. Partridge, W. M'Lay, .T. Nicol, P. Prouse, R. G. Hardie Shaw, AV. J. Thompson, C. J. Ward, G. Slade, P. AV. Vosseler, H. H. Head, 11. Mainland, T, Ballinger, L. T. Watkins, and T. AV. VickeTman. It was; decided that Messrs. Ballinger, Mainland, and Ilorwood should be the association's delegates at the hydro-electric conference, to be held in Palmerston North. The ohairman said he .had met members of the Nntional Efficiency Board. 011 their request, to discuss a suggestion made by the association that the first essential to industrial success in the future would be "the amalgamation of tho interests of Capital an 4 Labour." The commissioners had asked what tho association had done in this respect, and Mr. Evans had explained that. certain conferences hud been held at which representatives of labour had met members of the association. The commissioners wero preparing a report on the subject. / _ Tho _ chairman mentioned 'that on the initiative of the Efficiency Board steps were being taken to form manufacturers' organisations is trades that did not at present possess such bodies. The object was to facilitate the investigation of problems arising from the war, and make possible the collection of detailed statistics regarding the various trades. Mr. Watkins said he had been asked by the chairman of the Efficiency Board what''industries could be established in New Zealand/for partially disabled soldiers. He had been unable to think of many. _ The matter was worth the consideration of the association. Some British and Canadian soldiers were producing hand-mAdo tweeds, and there were many other lines of manufacture that could lie followed by crippled men. Mr. Vosseler said that the soldiers at Lowry Bay were producing some very fine basket work, almost up to the stami-. nrd of the best imported. Their efforts had been particularly successful, although they had not got exactly the risrht materials. Other members mentioned that there was room for skilled craftsmen to pro- ' duco copperware, toys, etc.
