ARBITRATION COURT

0 (— YESTERDAY'S SITTING A sitting of the Arbitration Court was held yesterday. His Honour Sir. Justice Stringer presided, and with him were Mr. W. Scott (employers' representative) and Mr. J. A. M'Cullough (workers' representative). Oil the application of Mr. P. J. O'Regan the. two following compensation cases were set down for hearing 011 Thursday: Robert Morris v. Union Co.; James Knight v. G. H. Scales, Ltd. Mr. O'Bcgan stated that the first-mentioned case was adjourned from the last sitting of the Court, but a settlement had not been arrived at. The Wellington electrical workers' dispute was set down for hearing at 10 o'clock this morning. The Wellington stationary, traction, and locomotive engine-drivers' disputo was fixed for Friday next. Mr. M. J. Eenrdou announced that a complete agreement had been reached before the Conciliation Council in respect to the Wellington builders and general labourers' dispute. There was 110 material difference from the old award except, in respect to overtime and travelling clauses." Mr. W. A. W. Grenfell, for the employers, was agreeable to an award being made, and the Court made an order accordingly. Complete agreements reached before the Conciliation Council were announced in respect to the Wellington motor mechanics' and Wellington theatrical employees' dispute, and awards were ordered to be made' accordingly. On the application of Jl'r'. D. Kennedy an award was ordered on the lines of those in* other centres in the Marlborough furniture) trades dispute. Mr. Elsdon applied that the Wellington tinplato anil slieet-metal workers' award might be adjusted so as to allow the tinsmiths to amalgamate with the union and come undev the award. The application was granted. An application for an interpretation of tho Wellington bakers' award was set down for consideration oil Wednesday. TIIO Court consented to mal;q a recommendation from the .Conciliation Council into an award by consent uf the parties in the dispute between the master engineers and Metal Workers' Assistants' Union. A number of parties cited were struck out as they had not sufficient notice. The Court adjourned until 10 a.m. today.
