Eastbourno Social Club. A largo and enthusiastic audience greeted tho members of the "Charley's Aunt" Club, who journeyed across tho harbour on Saturday to givo a concert under the auspices of tiie Eastbourne Social Club. The performance was excellent and thoroughly enjoyed, with tho result that double and triple encores wero. frequent. The local orchestra played a delightful little overture; _i,r. Charles Moore sang in a finished manner "Land-of Delight" and "Shipmates of Mine"; Mr. lvevan Dillon had to respond to an insistent encore; Hiss Winnn Birch-Johnston and Mr. W. W. Crawford kept the house in fits of laughter and were recalled again and again; Miss Nesfca Carwell-Cooke delighted with her graceful dances; Mr. Norman Aitken -.eceived rounds of applause for his rendering of the "Yukon Trail," and in response to vociferous oncores gave "Wen are yo Coin' Away?" ami Do You Want Us to Lose the War" With equal eil'eet. Mr. W. W. Crawford's humorous items, "Water Scenes," "Military Representative," and ,"I Forget," had the audience helpless with laughter. Mr. Len Barnes's baritone voice was greatly appreciated in "Danny Deever" and "Floral Dance"; Miss Winnie Birch.Tohnston had to respond to a triple encore for her delightful items, "Whistle It," "Sister Susie's Sewing Shirts," and "Arguments"; Mr. George Clapham was successful in "Oh! Johnny," and for an encore gave a concerted number with Mr. Charles Moore, "Dear Old Homo of Mine"; Miss R. Carte was very effective in "The Highwayman," and Mr. Lai Hanlon was equally successful in his "Singing Soldiers," from "Ginger Mick," and "Cohen on the 'Phone." The performance closed with a delightful little oue-act play, "A Wire Entanglement," in which the following played parts: Misses R. Carle, Nesta Carwell-Cooke, Messrs. Zante Wood and George Clapham.
Miss Macandrew left for Palmersion North yesterday to judge tho needlework at tho Palmerston Show. Miss E. Hayos accompanied her.
Attention is agajin called to the first auction sale of bottles and tins which will be held to-dav on behalf of the Navy League's Patriotic Fund for Sailors.
To-day the Now Zealand Natives' Association ivill bo in charge of the Wellington Bed Cross Shop. Tlioy -will havo a good supply of home-made cakes, sweets, (lowers, etc., and they hope that l'ri-.inds of the Bed Cross will visit the shop and buy. On Friday the dooto;«* .wives .will have, their day, when all softs of novelties and attractions as -well as produce, home-made calces, sweets, flowers, etc., will bo sold. A raffle in which the prizes are such as cannot fail to make a strong appeal to all women "with homes in these days of shortage of domestic help is being bold, tickets being obtainable from all the doctors' wives.
Madame Clara Butt has already raised for various war funds an 1 amount' of ,£12.000, and she is now 'sotting herself another task for the raising of funds by arranging to give a scries of performances in the Qucon's Hall, London, of Mr. Louis 'X l';vrker's "Pageant of Freedom."
Miss Mackenzie (Carnarvon) is visiting Wellington, and is tho guest of Mrs, Biirllrop, Uajiiel Street, Newtown.
A meeting of the Wellington lied Cross Shop .Committee was.hold in tho Mayor's room of the Town Hall yesterday afternoon. In the absence of the Mayoress (Mrs. J. i\ Luko) Mrs. \Y. Nathan presided. Mrs. Firth reported that very satisfactory business had been transacted at tho shop during the month, and days for some time ahead had beon allotted. A communication was received from the Mayoress's Countess of Liverpool Fund Committee asking if tho Shop Committee could 6ce its way to letting the Liverpool workers have the shop on., the days that it was not being used for Ked Cross purposes. This tho committee, alter some discussion, regretfully decided that it was not able to do. Much sympathy was exposed for Mrs. Luko ill her illness, and the iiope was expressed that she would soon recover her strength.
