MR. S. E. M'CARTHY, S.M.
* ALARM ABOUT HIS TRANSFER, An alarm was ra/sed a week or two ago by some persons and societies who professed to believe that there was a dan. ger that Mr. S. E. il'Carthy, S.M., would be transferred from AVellington. ( ■ On this matter, the Minister of Justice (the Hon. T. M. AVilford) has sent tho following letter to the Mayor of Petone i —"AVith reference to tho resolution passed by tho Petone Borough Council in regard to Mr. S. E. M'Carthy, S.M., there appears to be some misapprehension in the matter. Mr. M'Carthy in not being transferred from AVellington, but lie has been granted a month's' leave of absence for recreation . purposes. I may say that with regard to Mr. M'Carthy, his permanent headquarters are at Napier, but'owing to his services having been required in connection with military duties at AVellington, it was found more convenient for him to remain here for the time being, and to carry out the duties of the second Magistrate,_ _ who was as chairman of a military board. No question of tho transfer of Mr. M'Carthy can therefore arise in the matter." v
