At Board 7 the Canterbury representative scored wilh a i:eat combination, offering his queen, which | could not be taken. An even ga'nio at Board S ended in a draw. At Board 10 Jl'Xair handled his pawn advantage splendidly, and scored for Wellington. At Board 11 the local player, who had previously lost a piceo through misreading it move, fought a gallant rearguard action, but had "to lower his colours at niovo 38. Board 12 yielded the local team a win on tho first evening, as already reported. At Board. 11 C. W. Tanner played very fine chess, and scored for ■Wellington at the forty-ninth move. Tho other five games am marked incomplete, and are to be adjudicated on. At present the local team is one point ahead (s—l), and the result of the match, therefore, depends on the decision of the adjudicators. An exceptionally close result may' be looked for.
