AUCKLAND CATCHES UP TO WELLINGTON. The competition between Wellington and Auckland in laying the copper trail to assist the funds of the Red Cross has resulted in Auckland catching up to Wellington in the distance covered. On Saturday night Auckland's trail reached Papatoetoe, a distance of eleven miles, having advanced seven miles in the week from Green Lane. The trail of pennies from Wellington now extends to Tawa Plat, also a distanco of eleven miles from tlio city, Wellington having made an advanco of six miles during the past week, as against Auckland's seven. To-day, therefore, Wellington and Auckland are" running neck-and-neck. To enable the Wellington copper (rail to reach Tawa Plat, a total of 550.000 pennies have been collcctcd.
