MINISTER OF LANDS IN THE NORTH
(By Telegraph—From a Correspondent.) Ohakune, ,fune 13. The Minister of Lands, the Hon. D. H. Guthrie, on Wednesday visited the Taniwha soldiers' settlement, near To Kauwhata. A personal insjiection of all tho farnis was made, after which a deputation, of.'the settlers discussed with the Minister matters'relative to the'conditions of the settlement and to the policy of the Government in that direction generally, Mr. Guthrio was able to adjust (several matters t connected with individual applications for assistance, and also explained mailers regarding the policy of the Department to the complete aatis'Inction of ths men, and was accorded a very, hearty send-off. . lesterday, Mr. Guthrie journeyed to Raetjhi, where he had a very satisfactory conference with the Raetihi Fire Belief Aesociftlion relative to the allocation and distribution of subsidies and loan moneys advanced' by the Government for reliof purposes, . In'the evening the Minister opened the iiMHial Wint 't Show at Ohakune, ■ at whjLh he expressed himself highly pleasad with the exhibits, making special reference to the splendid root exhibits; Mr. Guthrio joins the Main Trunk this morning for Wellington, after a tour of nearly three weeks, embracing the Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Tauranga, and Haurak.'
