The memI ners present accorded the president their ; - ivhole-hearted support, in his controversy ' with the Government, and formed themi selves into a committee to assist in every ;■ possible way. Following this, Captain ', Barclay read an interesting article, def scribing tho uttor fearlessness of the • populace of both London and Paris duri- 1 ing enemy aeroplane .raids. r Madame Plimmer, recently from ;' France, gave a vivid description of the ? pitiable scenes at the large railway staf tions in Paris on the arrival and depnrJ: ture-of the indomitablo French soldiers, r' Madame Plimmer also described the f ; struggling existence of tho soldiers' wives 'i with the Government allowance of one I franc (9}d.) per day. She commented '!': also on the total absence from the streets I of the male members of the community, f. excepting aged men, crippled soldiers, b and children. \ Several recitations' and musical items I were given. The evening closed with * the singing of "La Mareellaise."
