Inconnection with tho demands of the Band mine workers the Chamber of Mines has agreed to a minimum of 20s. per shift under certain conditions. It is pointed out that miuiy of tho mines aro working on a email margin of profit, and a closing down would result in increased wages. Natives aro joining in the demand for increased wages. WIDESPREAD UNREST. (R«o. June 11, 8.43 p.m.) Johannesburg, June 10. There is serious liihour unrest amongst the South African mine workers. Tho union, declining the suggestion of the federated trades lo await tho formulation of the denmnds by kindred unions, aro insisting on their demands being immediately met. The principal demand is for a 25 per <;ent. increase in wages, owing to tho cost of living, and irrespective of. the present sliding scale and war bonus. Tlie natives employed by the municipal council have also demanded an increase of Cd. per day. The demand was refused and 150 were arrested, sentenced to two months' imprisonment, and ordered to continue their sanitary work under arjned g'uaj'de.—Router,
