MERCANTILE CHARGES
UNIVERSAL SCALE WANTED. At, tho meeting of the council of the Wellington Chamber of Commerco yesterday afternoon the following letter was received from the Napier Chamber of Commerce:— "Dear Sir,—This Chamber has recently lintl occasion to revise the scale of mercantile charges in forco in this district, and it has been found thah there exist many discrepancies between the charges made in various centres, particularly with regard to land agents' commissions, At s general meeting held ou May SI tho following resolution was adopted: 'That all Chambers of Commerce bo written tq. asking them to co-operato with a view 6f having a universal .scalo of mercantile charges adopted.' • "The advantages of having a- universal scale in operation will doubtless appeal to you, and I trust that your co-operation will be forthcoming. I am instructed to ask you to be good enough to for-, ward mo a copy of the scale of mercantile charges recognised by your Chamber, or if you have no recognised scale to furnish me with particulars of the scalo of commissions charged by lands agents in your district." It was decided to send to tho Napici Chamber!a list of the charges current in Wellington, including those adopted by tho Land Agents' Association for tho salo of land, and suggesting that tho Napier Chamber take up the wider question of uniform cash discounts throughout New Zealand .in tho same branches of trade.
