Last season, a! a thißC-year-oln, Kilboy was undoubtedly the best horse racing over a distance in i\ew Zealand, and he showed promise to be tho best long-distance, galloper we had seen for many years, but unfortunately one of biß front legs gave him trouble, and after Hobbs had nursed him back to health, Kilboy sprung a curb on his near hock. After tbis his owner and trainer decidod not to persevere with the heavytopped ion of Kilbroney, and accordingly he ii to be sent to the stud. Kilboy is by Kilbroney from C'yrc, and ii a rifling five-year-old.
Kilboy started his racing career iu the colours of his breeder, Mr. 0. B. Heid, at Hawora, in the Esmont Stakes, in which ho was unplaced. His second start was at New Plymouth, and he was again out of the money. Going on to Eicoarton for the autumn meeting there he was beaten a head in tho Champagne- Stakes by tho then Ohokcbore-owned Good Hope. On the second day of the samo meeting Kilboy was successful in the Challenge Stakes, winning by five lengths from Mr. G. D. Greenwood's Emperador. That cloied his racing campaign for that season. For his five starts as a two-year-old Kilboy won 520 sovs. for his owner.

The Elderalie-bred horse next 6ported ailk at Flemiugton and was sent out an even-money favourite for the V.B.C. Derby, but could only finish fourth. M. Hobbs then brought his team home and Kilboy was not raced until the O.J.Cs Easter Meeting, when ho was Biicceseful lti winning the Great Autumn Handioap. The St. Legcr at Trentham next fell to Messrs. Stead aud Luttrcll'i horse, and on the second day of the same meeting he and The Toft were in front of Desert Gold in tho Trentham Gold Cup, run over two miles. This was the last raoo Kilboy hail rb a three-year-old. As a three-year-old he won 2160 sovs. in 6take money in New Zealand, and his win in the A.J.C. Derby was worth 4597 sots.
As a four-year-old Kilboy did nothine at all. althouKta he was taken to Australia to compete in the valuable raoes decided oyer there, but be could not stand a preparation, and a couple of months back M.
