WHO WAS IT?
« — A MYSTERIOUS DEPUTATION. The Minister of Marino wrote to tho Gisbor'rie Harbour Board recently in reference to a. deputation which waited upon the Minister of Public Works on January 2r>, asking among other things that the Government should send two or. three engineers to Gishorne to report and see what was tho best, course to be taken in respect to improving the. harbour. A report based on a preliminary study for an outer harbour for Gisborne had been furnished to the Department by the Engineer (Mr. Holmes), and a copy of this report had been furnished to the board. In view of this report having .been made, it did not seem necessary to the Department to send other engineers. Moreover, as some ot tho .engineers were away at the war it was impossible to spare ally of those now in New Zealand. Mr. Long: Who comprised the deputation? The chairman said he had, no knowledge of any deputation having waited upon the Minister. Mr. Preston said they should endeavour to learn who the deputation were. Mr. "Wallis: Someone has been trying to make fools of the board. It was decided to reply stating that no ' deputation from the board waited upon the Minister, and asking who formed the deputation.
