WAR CONTINGENT ASSOCIATION
\ND NEW ZEALAND EED CROSS woitp. An- officer wlio recently nrrivcil from England : . pays ii warm tribute to (he work or' the iVew Zealand War Contingent Association in London. Besides atteuding'to the requirements of the sick and wound«l in the many hospitals and convalescent homes, the association arfaiiges for motor-car jaunts into the country and to places- of •historic interest for thoso who arc able to take advantage of them. But their.cfTorts go further . than- that. - The returned .officer states that the contingent ha.s got j-iiito touch with people all over the United Kingdom who are willing to extend tho hospitality of. their homes to' New ileriland officers and men who are on leave from Prance with the object of being able to 'place men in such parts of the country as they express a preference for spending their time. For. example, a man may come of parents who originally came from this or tha.t part of the Kingdom—in England, Scotland, Wales, or even Ireland—may wish" to spend a few days in a particular locality, and the association' assists him to do so.
Eecently ■Mγ.' Raymond (chairman of the.association) wrote to the Sfayor (Mr. ,T. P. Luke) asking if it were possible to raise money for the p'rahnse of a char-a-banc in which to convey convalescent soldiers about the country. This really comes under the heading of Bed Cross work, and Jlr. Luke replied to that effect, advising Mr. Kaymoud to consult with Colonel the 'Hon. \l. IT. ( ■Rhodes, now in London, on the matter. In regard to Colonel Ehodes's visit to England as a, sppcinl emissary of the New Zealand Eed Cross Sniisty, vw change is being' effected of an important mature.
