MERCHANT SHIPBUILDING

SATISFACTORY OUTPUT IN MAT.

London, June 5. Tho Admiralty announces that 197,27-1 tons of merchant shipping wns completed in May, compared with 111,533 tons in April.

The report comments upon this as' a satisfactory output, and a great credit to tho whole industry, especially to tho, firms engaged in fitting out the vessels. Tho efforts to reduce the period between launching and completion have produced satisfactory results. The averago time of fitting out has been considerably reduced. For examplo, a 5000-ton steamer was completed in nineteen days after being launched. This acceleration in fitting oiit increased the output for May.—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn.-Eouter.
