THE NEXT BALLOT

:■■ ___—$ —: —_ ■ '10,000. MEN FROM CLASS C. .' It has been decided that 10,000 names shall be •drawn from Class C ofrthe Second Division (men with two children) in this month's ballojj. The drawing is to take place next, week, and the names wil\ be published in a special Gazette to be issued on June 18 .or a day' or two later. The April and May Ballots, which exhausted Class B, were also large ones, and it is likely that ninny of tho C men will . receive more than the promised Hhree months' leave after medical examination. It is considered desirable, however, that a substantial number of C men shall be drawn this month, in order that examinations and appeals may proceed.- ,'•■ i Tho shortage cf shipping has interfered with the dispatch of reinforcements at tho increased rate adopted ,in April, in response to the request of the Imperial (iovornment for more men.- Recruiting is proceeding for the present on tile increased scale, however, in order that New Zealand may be in a position to 6end tho full number.of men nsked.for if the required amount,of shipping becomes available. The rate of recruiting is expected to slacken within tho next few months. The July ballot list probably will contain; the names of 5000 Class C men.,. The toLil number of reservists in this class is between 27,(100 and 28,000.
