A protest meeting called by tho Society for tho Protection of Women and Children is to be held in the Concert Chamber of tho Town Hull on Saturday afternoon at half past two. All women aro urged to attend, particularly mothers of daughters, young women earning their livine, members of women's societies, church guilds, etc. Proposals for the.' more effective legislation, safeguarding women aro to be brought forward, and the xpoakers will be. Lady Stout, Mrs. Harverson, Mrs. Donaldson, and.others. It is felt that Tecent events make it imperative that women should bestir themeelves in regard to the laws affecting ivomon.
The wedding took place in tho Roman Catholic Cathedral, Christchurch, of Miss Kathleen M'Cormaok, daughter of Mr. T. J M'G'ormack, to Corporal Walter Seott Hindmarsh, formerly of Timaru, but now of Dimedin. Miss Alice M'Connack mid Miss Eileen Twoomey. of Lyttelton, were bridesmaids. The best man was Sergeant Charles Tames, and the groomsman Privatn Harold Gripsby. Bridegroom, best: man, and groomsman are all returned soldiers, the first two being comrades in anns from Oallipoli days. All three were in uniform. The Rev. Dr. Kennedy performed tho ceremony.

The appeal made Ijy the Navy League Committee for bottles of every kind is meeting with much success, and already considerable supplies havo been received. The children belonging to' thfi various schools have been interesting themselves in the matter, and have materially assisted the effort.
Tho weekly dance held at the Sydney Street Soldiers' Club last evening was an usuul very successful. ' The hall wus just comfortably filled with dancers and a keen night added zest to the dancing. Mrs. Shirlcliffe and Miss Coates were- the hostesses ,aud othjr- arrangements were carried orit as usual.
The Terraces will hold o Rod Cross day at tho shop 'on Jb'riday next. Preparations have heeu made for a successful day, and there will bo much to buy for those who would help on Red Cross work for our New Zealand soldiers. Homemade cakes, sweets,' flowers, jama, etc., will bo ottered at fair and reasonable prices; there will also be rome children's dainty hand-mndo underclothing for sale.
A meeting of Hie Wellington. Nursing Division, St. John Ambulance Brigade Overseas, was held on Monday evening;, Mrs. W. H. S. Moorhoiwe being in the chair. The members first sung "God Savo the King," and then went through squad drill and a good practice in roller bandaging.
