SOME BRITISH PEICES. People who find the cost of living oppressive in New Zealand may be interested in a table of prices sent to a Wellington gentleman by a correspondent in Hull, England. Tho following were controlled prices as on March 30 last:— Sausages, ?s. per .lb.; steak. 2s. 2d. per lb.; bullock beef, Is. Sd. per lb.; suet, Is. -Id. per lb.; Btewing meat, Is. 4d. per lb.; ham, 3s. per lb.; bacon,. 2s. Gd. per lb.; rabbits (skinned), Is. 3d. each; chickens, Us. each.

Toa, 2a. Bd. per lb.; treacle. Is. per lb.; peas, 9d. per lb.; sugar, Gd. per lb.; soap, i)d. per lb.; cocoa, 2s. Bd. per ]b.; coal. 3s. per bag (ten stone). Blankets, containing 50 per cent, of cotton, were costing from 335. Gd. to 475. Gd. per pair. Ladies' bcots of the standard quality sold under control cost 21s. per pair, and men's boots 17s. Gd. per pair. '

. It should bo understood, of course, that many of the articles mentioned in this list aro rationed. There were four coupons on tho meat card issued to an adult, and theso coupons represented the amount of meat that could be purchased (if it was available) in one week, Ono coupon entitled tho holder to buy sd. worth of butcher's meat, or 10oz. of rabbit, or 3oz. of bacon m Goz. of sausage.. Theso are uncooked weights.
