MONROE DOCTRINE IN THE PACIFIC
THE CLAIMS OP, AUSTRALASIA. London, June 3. The "Pall Stall Gazette" expects that America will pay lieed to Australasia's claim to, an Australian-Pacific Monroe Doctrine. Australia is; tlio rallying point of tho Pacific free communities. There has always been a mental reservation respecting Germany's .Pacific colonies in tne discussions of the fato of her oversea possessions, and it has been' felt that Germany's ejection from tho Pacific is irrevocable becauso Australian opinion will not allow the German menace to revivb.-.-Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.. (Reo. June i, 9.55 p.m.) . London, June 4, The "Daily Telegraph," discussing Australia's appeal to America regarding the security of tho Pacific, points out that with tho Russian collapse the Reichstag peace resolution has been forgotten, and tho question of indemnities has again been raised Dr. Solf recently declared that they must have a consolidation of tho German colonies in Central and South-west Africa,, but moro especially tiho reacouisition of the Pacific colonies. "Australia does not therefore deal in imaginary fears. In tho ovont of -tho enemy gaining a satisfactory peace, tho Germans ( would make points of vantage of New Guinea and Samoa, enabling them to establish bases for submarines, cruisers,. and air fleets. Australia and New Zealand are most alert. Par sighted Australasian politicians are aware of tho danger of Samoa becoming a German naval headquarters. For that reason Australia says: 'Hands off the Pacific!' and appeals to America to help. Whatever happens, tho security of tho Pacific must bo tho basis of tho final territorial settlement of tho German overseas colonies." —Aus.-N.Z. Cablo Assn.
