9 CHAMPION SWIMMER'S TRIP TO AMERICA. Some time ago the New South .Wales Ladies' Swimming Association began to make arrangements to send the Missw Durack and Wylie to America to compete in the American championships, and to represent tho association 'here. It was subsequently decided by the association that the projected trirf should haabandoned. Nothing daunted, the Misses; Durack and Wylie, whose minds were, set on seeking fresh fields in which to display their prowess, made application to tho association to be allowed to undertake tho trip at their own expense, but as representatives of the association. Thi* permission, however, was refused. Finally the two girls made up their minds to go, to pay their own expenses, and (o compote in the American amateur swimming championships merely as representatives of their respective clubs. Even this procedure was frowned on by the association, but as both girls were m no wise forfeiting their -amateur status by this action, the association count take no further action. Miss Fanny Durack will compete as the accredited representative of tho Eastern Suburbs Ladies Uub, and Miss Mina Wylie as the.representative of the Sydney Ladies' Club, they purpose going to San Irancisco first, U in all probability will not be seen Bt their best there, as hey will only land in America a fow days before tho swimming season opens. From ban Irancisco their future movements are uncertain but they havo decided that they will so far as circumsUuicos permit, compete at the various amateur ehaninionship carnivals throughout the United States, probably remaining for at j least six months.
