KING'S BIRTHDAY

CLOSE HOLIDAY TO-DAY.. To-day is the forty-third, birthday of King George V, and will bo celebrated as a' close holiday. In honour of the occasion bunting will bo flown from tho shipping in port and all the leading business and meroantiio buildings and institutions in the city.' The occasion will be marked in Wellington by a big patriotio procession whicn has been organised by the Bed Jersey Appeal Committee. Tho procession will be enlivened by a series of tableaux representing the spirit of tho Empire, battle trophies, and some wonderfully-decorated motor-cars, somo.of which will carry tho prize babies concerned in tho Tecent competition. Music is the soul of a procession, and to-day's function will not be . lacking in that regard. The bands to march will bo the Trumpet Band (from Featherston Camp), the Woolston (Christ'hurch) Band, the Waterside Workers' Band, the Patriotio Society's Band, the Solvation Army's Band, tho Featherston Military Band, tho I'etone Municipal Band.
