Williams, an energotic worker for the> Red Cross and other organisations in Melbourne, has during a three months' visit to this country taken every opportunity -ot studying and inspecting the work of a similar character done in tho various New Zealand contra. She pays a high tribute to the work of tho women ol tins country in patriotic causes, and ™ most favourably impressed by what she saw being done for the Red Cross and umircd causes in Dunedin. St. Hill and Miss Atkins are now' in charge of the canteen. In connection with the Red Jersey appeal, the Karori "Paddy's Market" realised on Saturday, tho final effort day, tho 6uhi of Mi 9s. Id., making a grand total of ,£BB 18s. Bd. for the six; days on which the market was open. Out of this amount it is anticipated that ,£B7 will be handed ovev to tho Red Jersey Appeal Fund, which is considered very creditable. Adjutant llosking, of tho Salvation Army, . paid a visit to tho market on Saturday and expressed his appreciation of the good work done by the committee. The Salvation Army Band also visited the distriot and played selections during tho afternoon.
At the Wairavapa Anzac Club on Friday night another of !he series of dances so popular with the soldiers was held, Mesdames W! J. -Martin, W. E. Bidwill, W., Hume, G. Pain, and A. C. Pearce being the hostesses. Music was provided by tlie Military Band, and Mesdames Catlyon, Oliver, Dawson, Wickons, and Miss Oliver played pianoforte extras. Mrs. H. N. Moss (mother of Mrs. H. B. Dyer, 'of Mastorton), who arrived in New Zealand in 1863, find was well known on the West Coast, died on Saturday at tko l 'ago of 81 years.
