The corporation auditor reported to the City Council on Thursday tvcning:— The appropriation account shows a surplus in. the tramways of .617,899 11s. 3d., as against 18s. 4(1., at March 31, IM7, and of .£lll7 75., as against .£172!) 3s. Id. at March 31, 1017, for the power eupply, thus giving a not profit this year of ,£18,8d6 18s. 3d. This amount has beon reduced by various appropriations amounting to ,£6239 IDs. 6d., leaving a balance, which, is carried forward, of J!12,606 18s. 9d. The Accident Insurance Fund row amounts to ,£15,978 -Is. Id., as against £13,362 7s. at March 31, 1917., ' Two new accounts now appeal" in (he balance-sheet, namely "Renewal Fund Account" and "Reserve Fund Accont," both of -which havo Parliamentary sanction. These amount to ,£43,8G0 and £10,498 10a., respectively, ,£33,361 10s. being placed on fixed deposit at the , bank.
