POLICE. AND CIVIL CASES. '. Mr. W. G. Eiddcll, S.M., was on the Bench at the .Magistrate's Court yestertiuy, and .dealt with the police and civil eases. Edith Annie Dorath'ona Flaherty was charged that ou May 21, at Wellington, she did forge a certain document—a Post Offico withdrawal slip for .£3o—and did cause one "Walter Smart, a pawnbroker, to act npon it as if genuine. She was further charged with obtaining from "Walter Smart £id by means of a false pretence, by representing herself as Mrs. Mary Dew'es, owner of a Post , Office Savings Bank book, with an accountant Napier. On the application of ChiefDetective Boddam she was. remanded for n week. Bail was allowed in .£IOO, and two sureties of .£SO each.
A remand to Saturday was granted in the case of Albert Kdvayd Steel, who was charged with stealing three rugs, valued at M 10s., the property of the Union S.S. Co. Bail was allowed in dCIO, «nd one surety of ,£lO. A coloured man named "Raim Bngwan, charged with assaulting Ravaji Dhailia, was remanded 'for n week for medical observation. For insobriety Jnmeß M'Conville, against whom there was one previous conviction, was fined 10s.. with the alternative of -1 hours' imprisonment. ■ CIVIL CASES. THE, WRONG- DIE. Irene Mary M'Carthy, for whom Mr. A. E. Seaton appeared, claimed from the Dominion Dyeing and Cleaning Co., represented bv Mr. It. C. Kirk, the sum of £i damages alleged to have been caused to a castnmc through it being dyed black instead of navy blue. After hearing the nvidenr.c Hie Magistrate gave judgment for plaintiff for .£3, with costs.
