The' membership was now 460, an in-, crease of 72 for the TeaK-"' The -balance-:' sheet showed a profit for the year of ,£456 95.;- Volume XV of the Herd Book was now in the press. It would contain tho pedigrees of 1320 hoifors and 914 >-.u]ls, bringing, the total of registered cattle up to 5850 males and 7860 females. 'As Usual, it would also give particulars of the'milk and 'butter-fat records of 107 cows which- have been. awarded certificates of record by' tho New Zealand Department of' Agriculture during thu year. 'The whole of tho semi-official .records mado'by Jerseys, would again ,be issued, in' pamphlet form. Satisfaction 11 must again be- expressed at the showing made in eemi-offieial tests.' Certificates of record were awarded to no. lower than 107 cows, and up t<i-£he present 452 Jersey cows ■ of. different ages had rocoived certificates. The 'average production' of l>utter-fat of these cows, a veTy large proportion,'-of-'which were heifers, with their first calves .'.when;, tested ', wa5',103.3 lb. butter-fat./ Fifty-three cow 6' earned the subsidy'of ill Is.'each, granted by the council for the production .of 1001b. or oyer'of butter-fat above th« amount required to- qualify for a certificate •of lecord. Acting oil tho rocomniendation of the last; annual meeting, the council agreed that the sum of -J5lO bo awarded *acji;ycar to any cow that'exceeded tho previous highest...semi-official record in each of tho fivo different: classes. for medal. awards, and 'in' 1 this connection this bonus was won during tho year in the class for cows.three years and under four years by " Sultan's CJematis," with the fine record of Gi1.291b. of butter-fat, the previous highest Tecord in the same class being 626.461b. of hutter-fat. ■ The council thanked the Dairv Division of the Department of Agriculture- for conducting tho tests,' and acknowledged tho courtesy aiid assistance given by the Departmental staff. The council .concluded by strongly emphasising the importance nl the association and. tho vnlne of its work for the greater development of the breed in New Zealand, and asked for the continued interest "of all members.
