The Alpini, roped together, climbed for hours until sufficiently near the fortified rock eyries to throw bombs. Those missing their footing, and tho wounded, dropped thousands of feet be-, low, and wore battered to pieces. The Austrian dofenders, cutting tho ropes, sometimes hurled whole groups to destruction."—"The Times."
