PROTESTANT POLITICAL ASSOCIATION
The iirst annual meeting of tJie Lower Hutt group was held in tho Lyceum Hal) on Tuesday night, when the chairman of the Provisional Committee presided over a crowded and representative gather ing. The Dominion and divisional secretaries were present, and the Kev. Knowles Smith delivered an address. In his opening statement he expressed tho regret of the Protestants that the Eoinan Catholics had that evening suffered loss by iiro of a portion of one oE their churches, and the contents of same, some of which probably could never be replaced. It was not the function of the P.P.A. to attack a man's belief or Inn place of worship. It was the political power wielded by one-sixth of the population that necessitated tho unity of the Protestants that was represented in tho Protestant Political Association. In closing, the speaker appealed to all to continue the splendid work already .accomplished iu Lower Hutt. The election of office-bearers for 1918 resulted in a strong executive heing appointed.
