THE KING AND DANCES
It is understood that tho King Ms expressed himself very decidedly on the subject of dances "iven in war time, and it may be well that his own views unct those of the Queen on the subject'should bo as widely known as possible, states ' "The Queetf" His Majesty, it is said, sees no objection whatever to small dnnccs of the "boy and girl" t.vpe,_ b*it cannot express too strongly his disapproval of balls for married women and people of maturer years, such as in one or two cases have taken place lately. For these it is maintained there is no ■ excuse whatever at a time when the Empire's fato is,hanging in the. balance. So strongly do I'hcir Majesties feel on the subject that the King has embodied his viows in the form of a letter addressed to a military, officer of high position. Under these circumstances it is unlikely that any more of these "married women's dances" will be givan—at all events for some considerable time to come. There can be 110 hardship in this; people not in their premiere jeimes.se can surely do without dancing. For girls and l»ys the case is quite different; dancing for them is tlio most natural form of amusement, while the young men home 011 leave should have every opportunity of enjoying themselves anil having a good time. So such harmless forms of amusement as tlies dansants and after-dinner dances for young people will go on, and these popular little reunions are likely to be nioro numerous than ever during the coming; summer months—just as all right-thinking people hope dancing for older people will bo at a discount.
