'The-fortnightly meeting of the committee of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held last evening. Mr. Meadoweroft, 'presided, and there was a fair attendance of members. The inspector's report dealt with- ono horse that had been destroyed, two cases of overloading, iiye horses off work for various reasons, and the ill-treatment of a calf and a dog. The subscriptions amounted to .C!) &.. including .£1 Is. each' from Messrs. P. S. K. Macassey and E. AV. Rowley, and .£1 from Mrs. Seville. Attention was drawn to a letter appearing in tho papers alleging cruelty -in country stock yards, and it was resolved to ascertain deftni'i; facts. A resolution of sympathy was rnssed to Mr. IV.
