ItOYAL DUTCH PACKET LINE. During the last few days (says the "Sydney Shipping List") it has been rumoured in shipping circles that the lioyai Dutch Pac-kct Liue intended resuming the Amtralinn service, but although nothing definite is known, there ia some ground for belief that such a course is possible, As is known, this company entered the Ai.stralian trade some years ago with two comparatively small Bteainers. However, business grew, consequently larger steamers were nOcessarj', with the result that two 5000-ton steamers were ordered to bo built some time ago. Both these vessels have up till recently been regular traders to the Commonwealth, e.nd a very lucrative trade was built up. About two mc-nths ago, the service was stopped, for reasons which are well known. Willi the current report which lias been circulated lately, inquiries were made,, with the result it is understood, that one of the company's vessels will shortly leave .Tava for Australia. Whether this nortemls a restoration of the service or not is not known. Lyttelton cargo will be loaded to-day by the Wootton. The small steamer Tainui will arrive in. mprrow from Lyttelton and load general cargo for Wannanui. Westport advised yesterday that the bar was croSsable. and after li:>vfn/r been outside for two or three daVH the Komata berthed at 4 a.m., and the Kahika at, 9 a.m. Tim Komata was to have sailed last nieht. Oio Kamona at noon • to-day. and. the Kahtlia tn-dn.v—all fully laden for Wellington.
This afternoon the Ngahero is duo from firoywouth, which port sho, left at 11 a.m. yesterday. A full supply of labour'ought to enable her to sail to morrow night to m,i a ® n,n f° r Wellington. iho old bartiuo Antiopc, which in turn ias lieon emigrant ship, freighter, ooal iinlk, and- which was recently rerigged in help copo with tho overseas trade from •Australasia, brought about by so many regular liners being diverted, is now back in New Zealand from San Francisco (says tho "Shipping List"). Private advices received states that tho Antiopo is to ho fitted out with electric light, and in addition accommodation is being installed on the aftor-dcck for eight apprentices. Members of tho Australasian Institute of Marino Engineers (Weliincton district) are requested by advertisement to attend the funoral of the late Mr. J. MacPhcrson. of the Transport Board, which will leavu the mortuary chapel of W. E. Morris, jun., 60 Taranaki Street, at 2.20 »,m. today for Karori Cemetery.
