ORGAN RECITAL

The audience at last night's organ ro cital in the Town Hall was by 110 means as large .as the excellence of the music, warranted. For those people who did attend the Citv Organist (Mr. Bernard Page) provided an attractive programme, played with tho skill and understanding that have endeared him musically to thoso who find his weekly orgftfl recitals none too frequent. • Hollowny's 'Suito Anciennc," an old favourite at the recitals, was tho first number. It was followed by the delicious fountain music from Act 2 of "Pellens and Melisande" (Debussy), a composition "woven of sunbeams and running water." Then came "Meditation-Prioro (Op. 90)," and "Canzona (Op. 90) No. 35" (Guilmant), and Cesar IVanck's interesting "Fantaisic in A." After the interval Mr. Page played the Second Movement and Finale from Symphony No. C in B Minor (Tschnilcovsky). This is the famous "Pathetic Symphony," written when the hand of Death was stretching towards the composer. Its sombre beauty was fully developed by the organist. The next recital will be given 011 Tuesday, Juno 4.
