The German offensive has been resumed at separate points and with a violence which compares with their tremendous effort of last March. Intense bombardments with gas-shells and massed infantry attacks are the main features of the German attacks, which so far have resulted in comparatively small gains at very heavy cost. The points selected for the main assaults were tlio Chemin- dcs-Daines, on a front of 25 miles, the British sector and Trench flanks on the Aisne, near Berry-au-Bac, and the Locre-Voormezeele sector in Flanders, this last being a local effort, designed apparently to counter the recent coup by the French in this region. A German demonstration is also reported from the Belgian sector. The Allies' aircraft and batteries are doing splendid work, while perfect co-operation is being maintained 'between the French and British troops for the effective uso of the Allies' reserves: As a counterhiove, the Italians have taken the offensive against the Austrians, and gained considerable ground, with many prisoners and a big haul of war material.
