MATTEKS AFFECTING MOTORISTS. The Petonc Borough Council met last night. Present: The Mayor (Mr. J. W. MTlwan) and Councillors W. Coj, •T. Cluuchhouse, J. Foster, D. M'Kenzie, It. Tt. .rones, E. Tovey, C. P. Brocklebank, S. Newlands, and J. M'Dougall. A letter was received from the Wellington Automobile Association pointing out that it did not consider the notice boards at the schools warning motorists lo beware of school children, wore ploced in (lie right position, and suggesting that-, the hoards bo removed to about 100 yards each sido of the schools. -After discussion, tho council decided that tho borough engineer should confer with tho president of tho Automobile Association as to what the association considered should be the best position in which to nlaeo the Iward?. Tho New Zealand Automobile Union wrote protesting against (he council's bylaw with respect to the speed and lighting of motor-cars passing through tho borough. Tho letter was forwarded through the Minister of Internal Affairs. Tt was decided to reply that the council -idhcrcd to its by-law.
