THE LATE MR. JOHN TELFORD
Sir,—Saving been, acquainted vrith tho late gentleman's mother and several other members of the family, the sketch of his career appearing in your issue of this date is of particular interest for me; but my object in writing you is to ask you to allow me to correct an error in tho dato of what is of historical interest to at least the banking fraternity. It appears that Mrs. Telford's father had at one time been a branch manager of the •Western Bank of Scotland. I myself at the time of its failure was a clerk at the head office in Glasgow, and $-as ;a witness of the dramatic closing of, na doors and of the intense financial panio that ensued. This event occurred in 1857, and not in "the early '.Ill's." as 6tated in your notice—l am, etc., D.T.S. May 25, 1918.
