'■ A biting bofore you its clninw on your sympathy and financial support. Tlie last Annual Keport (1917) describee its activities, iu a book of some 530 j pages, from which the following extracts are taken.-— j 'J'lic Report states:— ' J "FOR SOLDIERS AND SAILOKS.-Amid (lie storm and earthquake and fire, 1 which are working havoc in ilio world, we-have lost no opportunity to distribute j that Book which speaks with the stilt small voice of God. In trenches and dug- ' outs, in prison camps and barrack-rooms and on battleships, the lighting men of I nil nations now at strife have been reading Hie khaki-btmnd pocket Testaments ! Gospels, and Psalters issued by our Society. Sineo the war began vo have beeii i able to provide for this purpose over (>,OGfI,OOO volumes iu (il) different languages. I If only we couid follow those little books on their .sacred mission we fhould "seu 1 them discoloured by mud and rain, torn with.sheli-spliiiters, stained with blood; i we should hear them whispering comforts by the beds' of countless wounded; we : should watch them lifted ''cverently from the pockets of the dead." • "FOR BRITISH SICK AND WOUNDED SOLDIERS.-The Bible House is in direct, touch with no fewer than 1200 military or V.A. hospitals in England and ! Wales alone, as well as. with practically every similar hospital for British sol- > fliers abroad. To ali these hospitals it presents its copies in any numbers which i may he required for personal distribution among the sick and wounded men. A j stream of fresh supplies fa these hospitals is (lowing from the Bible House every , day, and since the commencement of the. war down to 31st March, 3017, the total j exceeded 600,000 copies of the Scriptures in English." ! In addition to this abnormal demand arising out of tho war (lie applications \ for copies of the Scriptures in the various languages continue unabated. Owing I to extra cost of production, etc., the Society requires X 30,000 additional, for 1918. | The Bible has been well described as "Tho Source of England's Greatness," \ and to all who realise the privilege and responsibility which that phrase implies i we confidently appeal. ■ ' !
